Brand Indicators for Message Identification, or BIMI, is a relatively new email security standard developed specifically with preserving an organization’s brand image in mind. When you implement BIMI for your domain, every time someone receives a legitimate email from you, they’ll see your brand’s logo next to the email in their inbox.
In doing so, BIMI serves a dual purpose:
When the recipient sees an email with your brand name, they’ll also expect to see your brand’s logo next to it. If they see an email from someone impersonating your brand, it won’t have your logo next to it, making them immediately recognize it as a potential spoofed email. You can protect your customers from phishing attacks by giving them this quick, easy way to identify messages coming from you.
Having your brand logo appear next to every email you send is a great way of reinforcing your brand image in the minds of customers. When they get accustomed to seeing your logo, they can better associate your brand name with your products and services, giving you free brand exposure. It also makes it more likely that they will open and read your email as opposed to trashing it.
To implement BIMI, you need to take the following steps:
Publish a valid DMARC record on your DNS.
Set your DMARC policy to 'p=quarantine' or 'p=reject’.
Publish a valid BIMI record in TXT file format onto your DNS.
Upload an image of your logo in SVG file format.
PowerDMARC offers free hosted BIMI on our app that handles publishing your record, and even lets you upload your logo in just one click.
